Overview & Description
The Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry (Amelanchier x grandiflora ‘Autumn Brilliance’) is a small, low-maintenance ornamental tree prized for its exceptional multi-season beauty. In early spring, it produces a blanket of showy, fragrant white flower clusters that attract pollinators. These are followed by abundant clusters of sweet, purple-black, edible berries in early summer, perfect for fresh eating, jams, or pies. Its dark green, oval leaves transform into brilliant red-orange hues in autumn, creating a spectacular seasonal finale. The smooth gray bark adds winter interest.
Growth & Size
This variety exhibits an upright, rounded to oval growth habit. It is a moderate-growing tree, typically reaching a mature size of about 20 feet in height with a spread of 16 feet. Its compact size makes it ideal for residential landscapes and smaller gardens. It is also available in a multi-stem clump form.
Additional Notes
It blooms in early spring. Hardy to Zone 2, it is adaptable and thrives in full sun to partial shade, preferring sandy-loamy, moist, well-drained soil. It is self-fertile and drought-tolerant once established. An outstanding choice for specimen plantings where four-season interest—spring flowers, summer fruit, fall color, and winter bark—is desired.
